Some Little Things That Can Make a Big Difference in Your Images

I am so excited at the prospect of capturing your images!

You may wish to do a few things on your end that will help ensure a more swoon-worthy shoot with me. If you utilize none of these tips you will still have lovely images and we will certainly “capture this chapter”. I will pose and “fix” you every step of the way. I have enough props and extra wardrobe pieces on hand to provide you with a well-rounded set of pictures...so don’t stress if all you do is show up! However, if you want to prep and plan, here’s what I recommend…

-Solid colors, textures, and layers are awesome and recommended but avoid solid white and solid red (unless this is a theme/symbolic color or one you/we have chosen for your shoot).

-If you do choose outfits with prints, avoid stripes and clothing with writing or complex graphics on them.

-Second-day hair is usually better than freshly washed, as there won’t be as many flyaways to edit. If coloring, I suggest a week or so prior to your shoot to allow for the healing of the hair’s “luster” and to avoid that “just colored” look, or unwanted pigments on the skin or scalp.

-In regards to skin, exfoliate a day or two prior to your shoot (at least 3 days prior for waxings) and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

-No matter how light or heavy you may wear face makeup, please avoid anything with shimmer or glitter in it, as well as heavy powders. Don’t worry about trying to layer makeup to hide every blemish if you have any problem areas…I will edit out any distracting or any “unlike you” tidbits.

-Try to keep nail colors solid or neutral and if wearing clear polish or have no polish, well-manicured is always nice.

-Stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your shoot and avoid high sodium or high sugar foods.

-If possible, assure that all children and young adults are well-fed and rested/napped. I am more than adept at being adaptable with moods and attention spans but it's usually less stressful on you and your images if members of your group are pliable.

-Avoid alcohol in the days prior to your shoot (I request that you not use alcohol during your shoot).

-Be sure to get as much sleep as possible on the nights before your shoot.

-Please remove any unnecessary/unplanned items from your person prior to the shoot (phones, hair ties, sunglasses, ect.) (During your shoot I will also refrain from any use of cell phones or personal photos, as I don’t allow this for infringement purposes).

-If meeting at an outdoor location or one other than your home, it is recommended that you bring a selection of layering options you might want, and are certainly welcome to bring any props you would like to incorporate. If children or newborns are in your shoot, I suggest items like cherished blankets, favorite toys, or ultrasound images to play with. Seniors may want to bring items (large or small) that speak to their character…the same may apply to lifestyle and couples shoots.

-Remember that you are beautiful for who you are, where you are, and in the season you are in.

Get ready to show up for yourself and capture this chapter!
